While most of the villagers are deep in their slumber, several men—the young and quick-witted ones—secretly gather on the outskirts of the village, preparing to sneak out.

"Walking at night is dangerous. Goblins and orcs become more ferocious, and trolls run rampant. You have to run non-stop," says the oldest.

Following the marks that have been left on the trees on a dark night is not an easy thing to do, added they have to run nonstop. But everyone has made their minds up and it is okay for them to die on the way tonight for the sake of their children's future.

"Then let’s go."

The young men look into the dark misty forest, gulping a chunk of saliva, then cautiously enter it.

They hold the torch high and walk with a brisk pace, chasing the cuts on the trees. Everyone reacts sensitively to every little rustling sound in the bushes. They move quickly, backs to each other, looking around.

Not only monsters such as goblins and orcs or carnivores like wolves and coyotes but also stags and wild boars are a danger to them.

"Growl!"

Everyone swallows their saliva at the sudden sound of an animal croaking. They indeed have the courage to come, but they are all just ordinary peasants. Their only weapons are makeshift farming tools.

"Come on, hurry up."

The one standing in front speaks in a trembling voice, causing the rest to step even faster. At one point, they forget about chasing the cuts on the trees and run in panic as they finally see a small path.

It is Rando's job to be vigilant around his village. Even though there is nothing particularly dangerous, he would usually hunt goblins and orcs. Their strength isn't actually that strong and it is the werewolf that poses a threat to them, but those swarming guys are stupidly brave enough to spirit away werewolves' children. They are greedy and cunning, requiring full attention and caution.

Rando manages to kill a few goblins, drives them out of their hut, and drags them around their village. He boosts his gigantic body to make it look bigger, then growls in the middle of the goblin village. Several goblins holler at each other in fear. They will not come out of their village for a while.

Far from over, Rando then steps into the oak forest, kills another few goblins and orcs wandering outside their village— sprinkles blood here and there, before finally going back to his own village.

However, on the way home he notices a sound that he would not normally hear. Those are the sound of rushing footsteps. A couple of shoes spurt into the soil and clatters everywhere. There is also the sound of metal clanking and people's panting.

Rando is curious about the strange sound and approaches it.

As he gets closer, the sound grows louder. In such a deep forest, making that kind of loud noise would only attract nearby predators. In the wild, there is only one race that shows such clumsy movement: humans.

Several humans are seen swarmed and running at a brisk pace, not knowing that some beasts are lurking in the dark waiting for their chances. Rando recognized some of them. They are men of the lower village who came to him last night.

For a moment, Rando only observes them. He knows he doesn't have to save them, but he can't leave them alone. Those villagers are the ones who provide Rando's village with valuable crops.

'Hm, let's see first how they handle themselves.'

Rando jumps a tall tree to get a better view of the villagers.

"Whoa..."

They have too many loopholes. They don't even know how to hide their sound, while their dreaded smell wafts all the way to Rando's hiding. When one shows their fear, predators would recognize them as food.

A tiger emerges in front of the villagers. It shows them its sharp fangs and growls. Instead of running away, the villagers swing their farm tools and torches everywhere. The tiger does not seem frightened, it looks at them in excitement instead.

Rando, contemplating what to do, jumps out of the hiding tree and lands between the tiger and the villagers. He growls!

He threatens the tiger by showing his claws and sharp teeth. The tiger flinches, observing a little longer before finally giving up on the humans and running back into the bushes. It knows that it won't win.

"Are you okay?"

Seeing Rando still in his wolf form, the villagers do not drop their guard instantly. They keep their farming tools and torches up.

So Rando returns to his human form to show the villagers he doesn't have any ill means.

The villagers finally lower their farming tools and torches, looking noticeably relieves to see that it is Rando.
