"We're all f*cked."

The supervisor said in vain. Tears were clearly visible in the corners of his eyes, causing the workers to become uneasy. Nicholas was no exception.

"What did the reporter say again...?"

He got a headache trying to remember what the news reporter had said. Nicholas felt his stomach churn again so he bent down and covered his mouth with his hand.

"Hurry up and run away..."

She did say to run away, then...

"Run away! Run away..."

Where? Where to? Nicholas could not even think of a specific direction in this chaotic situation.

Fear, which had started to spread earlier, quickly permeated the workers and prevented everyone from making rational decisions.

"They say some reptilian monsters have invaded the center... And it actually had already started a few days ago. The city was closed," continued the supervisor.

The signs of abnormalities over the past few days flashed through Nicholas' head. It must be those cordollians or dinosaurs monsters' doing. Nicholas shuddered, thinking of his boys at home.

He had to flee with his boys to a distant place somewhere.

The monsters had already invaded the city but not a single one had yet been seen here. How much longer until they can reach the outskirts?

Nicholas clenched his fists.

"What should we do now?"

Amidst the commotion, someone raised his voice even louder and asked the supervisor a question.

"I don't know! Just quit your jobs! Go home by yourselves!" the supervisor shouted in anger.

What an irresponsible statement. Still, he answered some other questions in this chaotic buzzing situation. He said the buses won't come and just keep repeating that everything was f*cked.

After that, the workers could no longer be controlled. They started to run to get their belongings and pushed each other.

Nicholas was late to come to his senses and pushed from side to side, until finally, he jerked up and joined the chaos to grab his tool. He didn't know whether his pickaxe would stand against the fierce beast, but it was better than nothing.

People were chaotic as they tried to get through the narrow entrance. Nicholas also wanted to get out of the workshop as quickly as possible but then decided to twist his body around and left the rows―thinking that if he keep forcing his body there, his bone might be broken or worse, trampled to death.

He waited until the entrance got a bit loose and looked up when he heard the TV make a crackling noise again. It was another news screen.

A man in a suit was caught by a reptile-like monster with blood in his mouth and poured out his words with a crying face.

[Dear respectful citizens...]

[Squeak Shkhhhhhh!]

[The city has completely fallen... It is a defeat of humanity].

[Skhh! Sghkhhh!]

[It's useless even if you run away...]

The man seemed to understand the language of the beast, which was nothing more than a hiss. His terrified eyes were yellow and full of tears―the same color as the cordollian.

[We will have to pay the price for recklessly building houses on their land...]

The hissing cordollian was much larger than a human and was a wild, scaly creature of a different class than any ordinary reptile. In comparison, humans looked like insignificant food.

The man's desperate voice broadcasting the cordollian's will further fuel Nicholas' anxiety.

So like a father who could think of nothing but his children, Nicholas broke through into the heavy rain. Other workers have now seen in the distance scattered and following different paths. However, due to the heavy rain, it was difficult to distinguish the exact shape.

To get home without a bus, Nicholas had to run for more than two hours non-stop. It was impossible for someone with a sick lung in such weather. But Nicholas didn't give up. His boys might be in danger.

There was no TV in the house. Only a radio, but it was all worn out and broken. His boys probably didn't know that some monsters had attacked and humanity had to flee. Fortunately, Nicholas remembered Logan's complaint who was told not to go to the center. Dustin, too, didn't leave his room to work. They must be at home now.

"Guys, Daddy's coming... I'm on my way..."

Nicholas wanted to sit down and cry. But no, he couldn't. He kept running on the muddy road without stopping. His glasses were dirty with traces of rain and his body was a mess. Sweat and tears were all washed away by the heavy rain.

Finally, after alternately running and walking, a sign pointing the way to a slum was seen in the distance. Confirming that he had run halfway, Nicholas stopped in the rain and choked. He was holding the pickaxe so tightly that it left a mark on his palm.

During the long run to the house, he encountered no one. Not even monsters. On the wide road, he was alone. And each time he felt seeing some figures in the distance, Nicholas would run like a madman and hide. Not really knowing whether it was an actual cordollian or just a tree.

The rain started to get heavier and heavier. Nicholas kept driving his body by moving his weak legs forcibly.

"Huff huff huff..."

The air entering his lungs was extremely humid, and a sensation of thorns piercing the inside of his chest followed one after another. Nicholas continued to drag his legs, unaware that his lips had turned blue.

His legs couldn't feel anything now.

"Logan! Dustin!"

There was still some leftover strength in Nicholas' throat. So barely made it to the front of the house, he anxiously called out to his boys. He turned the doorknob. But it only made a clacking sound, the door did not open. His hand just kept slipping on it.

"Guys! Open the door! It's Daddy! We have to run away...!"

Nicholas then realized that he was turning the knob in the opposite direction. In a cold sweat, he tried to turn the knob again. It cracked open. Then he pushed as if he were going to break in.

Once inside, the dark house was strangely all drenched and there was a faint unfamiliar scent floating everywhere.

Nicholas froze. Two figures were seen standing in the dark house. They turned their heads toward the opened door at the same time. And so Nicholas met with two pairs of bright yellow eyes.

Nicholas needed to say something, but no sound came out. He had strangers standing inside his house with yellow eyes.

The cordollians have invaded my house. He panicked.

"Ah... Ah..." he let out a desperate cry and stood motionless, trembling.

How many strikes should I swing to kill those monsters?

Nicholas wondered, yet all he could do was forcefully lift his immobile legs and stagger backward.
